Full Moonscape - 10x10 Framed Original Cyanotype
Cyanotype is an old photographic process also called blueprinting or solar printing. A photosensitive solution is applied to the paper. Physical objects and/or photographic negatives are then arranged on the paper and exposed to the sun. The parts of the treated paper that were exposed turn a stunning prussian blue. The areas where the objects block the sun remain white. The paper is then rinsed and dried. I love this medium for showcasing sexy botanical silhouettes! This piece features a negative of the full moon enveloped by wispy milkweed fluffs, horseradish flowers, nigella and tree fern.
I created this piece as part of a series, the rest of which was on display at the Tri-County Arts Council Gallery in Olean, NY. Two of the three pieces have since sold from the gallery! This one didn't make the cut because there are some subtle markings on the plexi, that in most light are not even noticeable. Nevertheless I'm offering here at a discount!
